With his moving photograph Bath Time In Gaza showing a 30-year-old father, Salem Saudi, playing in a bathtub with his young daughters in the ruins of the family’s home in Gaza (for which Israeli authorities restricted him to leave Gaza city to receive his 2015 Sharjah Prize), Emad Samir Nassar is a 22-year-old Palestinian photojournalist who has documented the after-effects of the Gaza war in 2014. Nassar’s photographs show the obliviousness of the natives to the destruction around them, and their struggle for survival in the post-war Palestine. His photographs attempt to remind the world of a life free from conflict and violence, and serve as a testament that innovation and courage can exist despite harsh realities.
